How do you keep private photos on iPhone without iCloud?
Start by mapping every copy. Hidden Album can reduce casual visibility, but a no-cloud boundary requires deliberate storage, a verified move, and a recovery plan you control.
Move
Start with a small sample instead of the whole library.

Open the protected original-quality copy before cleanup.

Keep a tested backup and its recovery material apart.
A no-cloud workflow begins before you import.
First decide what "without iCloud" means for you. It may mean no iCloud Photos synchronization, no shared album, no copy in iCloud Drive, or no cloud-held private vault. Those are separate boundaries and should be checked separately.
Keeps selected items out of the main library view, but does not create a separate no-cloud store.

Better when photos, video, files, and notes need a separate organized boundary.
Find the copies that remain outside the private boundary.
Moving a photo into a private app does not automatically prove every other copy is gone. Screenshots, Files exports, messages, shared albums, editing apps, and Recently Deleted can each keep a separate copy or reference.
Choose a product whose storage boundary is explicit.
Look for a plain answer to four questions: where protected files are stored, whether vault features make network requests, what happens to the original after import, and how recovery works if the phone is lost.

LOCAL-ONLY CHANGES THE RECOVERY MODEL
A service that does not host your private vault cannot promise a server-side reset for that vault. Device loss, forgotten credentials, and missing backups remain real failure modes.
Verify first. Remove originals second.
Treat the move as a small migration, not a bulk delete. A protected screen is not enough evidence that the photo is complete, recoverable, and absent from unintended locations.
